We flew to Mexico when my son was 3, and in order to get a flight that we could afrofd 4 tickets for, we had to wake the kids up at 2 in the morning, drive an hour to the nearest international airport, fly to Charlotte and transfer planes to fly on to Cancun. Both my kids were great sports for most of the trip, but Sam fell asleep on the first flight and when he woke up he freaked out. He kicked and hit me, screamed at the top of his lungs, and after I handed him to my husband, hoping he’d have more luck restraining him, he kicked the seat of the passenger in front of them. She yelled and screamed at both my husband, telling him Well maybe you shouldn’t travel with him!! despite the fact that we were clearly doing everything we could to calm him down. I’m happy to say that the rest of the passengers on the plane were sympathetic and understanding. We all know that there are bad parents and maybe even bad kids out there, but there are also good parents having bad days and good kids having bad days. To be honest, I’m much more bothered by adults behaving badly in public than by any child.
