1764 Origin A man named Sato Manemon, opened "INN KAMEYA" on the foot in Mt.ASAMA . He was said to the descendant of vassal of Takeda Shingen, a famous general at Warring States Period.
Anyway, the history of MAMPEI HOTEL started exactly here.
There were two important men at the dawn of MAMPEI HOTEL. Manpei Satoh and Kunisaburou Satoh. Manpei Satoh was the founder, Kunisaburo was a son-in-law of Manpei. Kunisaburou succeeded to the name of "Manpei" after founder died.
And, we have been succeeded their wills.
1850 Dawn Founder Manpei was born. It counted from Manemon at the ninth generation. He had succeeded INN KAMEYA.
1868   Kunisaburou was born.
1886   Mr.Dixon stayed in the house of founder Manpei. Mr.Dixon was a person who had acted at that time with Mr.A･C・Shaw who has been said to the father of Karuizawa revival.
1887   Kunisaburo came to family as the bridegroom of daughter of Manpei.
1889   16 foreigner guests stayed in KAMEYA during summer. Next year, Manpei remodeled the second floor and added four guest rooms.
1894 Establishment Kunisaburo graduated the preacher school that Mr.A･C･Shaw established. After he had engaged in the propagation activity with Mr.Shaw, returned to Karuizawa.
He renewed the name from "INN KAMEYA" to "KAMEYA HOTEL". Manpei and Kunisaburo's cooperation had started to manage.
This is the year of the establishment of MAMPEI HOTEL.
1896   The name renewed from KAMEYA HOTEL to "MAMPEI HOTEL"
1902   MAMPEI HOTEL had been in the place where the post office is in now on Karuizawa Ginza. This year, we moved to a present place. It was European style construction and the number of guest rooms were 22.
1905   17 rooms in the annex were added. Next year was that a famous MIKASA HOTEL was constructed. Founder Manpei served as the architectural supervisor of MIKASA HOTEL.
1918   The founder, Manpei Satoh died. he was 68 years old.
1919   The name "Manpei" was taken to Kunisaburou.
Japanese annex was built. This is a present Yuugyoan-Tankuma.
1925   We established corporation as "International Sightseeing Hotel Ltd.".
1927 Stormy Ages ATAMI MAMPEI HOTEL (number of rooms 22) was opened.
1931   TOKYO MAMPEI HOTEL (number of rooms 82) was opened.
1932   YASHIMA HOTEL (number of rooms 65) was opened.
1933   NAGOYA MAMPEI HOTEL (number of rooms 44) was opened.
1936   In KARUIZAWA MAMPEI HOTEL, reconstructing of the main building had started since the previous year. The Alps annex that the appearance is stopped still now was completed.
1937   NAGOYA MAMPEI HOTEL was transferred.
1939   TOKYO MAMPEI HOTEL was closed.
1941   Japan Hotel Association was established. Kunisaburou assumed the position of the director as Manpei Satoh.
1943   Attaches in the Soviet Union and Turkey had evacuated to KARUIZAWA MAMPEI HOTEL.
1944   ATAMI MAMPEI HOTEL was closed (Afterwards, it was sold off to the Tokyo railway hospital). The German had evacuated to Karuizawa.
1945   By requesting GHQ, business of KARUIZAWA MAMPEI HOTEL was stopped. And to spend winter comfortably, remodeling had been added.
1952 Modern Ages The U.S. military returned home. Business of KARUIZAWA MAMPEI HOTEL was restarted.
1957   YASHIMA HOTEL was closed.
Only KARUIZAWA MAMPEI HOTEL was left for us.
1958   Kunisaburou died at 89 years old. The bronze statue at the cafe side of KARUIZAWA MAMPEI HOTEL is him.
1963   Keyaki annex was built. 43 rooms of Western-style. This is a present Tokyu Harvest Club.
1964   MAMPEI HOTEL became lodgings of journalists of the Tokyo Olympics horsemanship game.
1970   Banquet room "Sakura" was built.
1972   At Sakura room, the summits of Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka and Assistant to the President Henry Kissinger were done.
1975   Atago annex was rebuilt.
1976   John Lennon stayed at summer time. He visited the hotel by four seasons until 1979, the previous year he was gone.
1986   Banquet room "The Happy Valley" was built.
1990 New Ages We started new company as "MAMPEI HOTEL CO., LTD.".
1994   The 100th anniversary of founding.
1999   Three cottages were newly built.
2001   The Usui annex was overall rebuilt. It has become a main force room of the hotel.
2004   The 110th anniversary of founding.
2006   An optical network was introduced into "The Happy Valley", "Sakura room", and the guest room Usui annex for correspond to the internet meeting.
2009   The 115th anniversary of founding.
